D-CAT’s CEO, Phil McLachlan was privileged to join an expert panel at COP 28 alongside the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf. The panel's challenge was to discuss 'Space as a Route to Net Zero'. The discussion highlighted the pace of growth of the Scottish space industry and its 'connectedness', including that with the Scottish Finance Industry, as well as the sector's growing international reputation in providing critical climate insights from satellite data.

One of the key early themes of COP 28 was how to better monitor the Net Zero transition for both government policy makers and corporates alike.  The panel discussion highlighted the need for the new climate insights derived from satellite remote sensing data to be more affordable, available and scalable.  Recognising that to have impact, these digitised climate insights need to be rapidly integrated into new monitoring, reporting and verification processes, overhauling outdated 'as is' practices. The expert panel discussion took place in the COP 28 Blue Zone on 2nd December and was facilitated by the CEO of X Prize Foundation, Anousheh Ansari. The panelists alongside the First Minister of Scotland and Phil, included Daniel Smith, Director of AstroAgency, Anna Hazlett, founder of AzurX and Allan Cannon, CEO and co-founder of Krucial.
