Land Surface Temperature from MODIS

This service provides a land surface temperature map for your specified region of interest at 500m resolution.

MODIS LST data products provide global land surface temperature. You must provide a region of interest and then a start date and optional end date. Note that MODIS LST data is available from 2002-02-24 onwards. For every day from the start to the end (inclusive), variation in land surface temperature is then output as separate images for day and night time temperature. The imagery is output as a series of GeoTIFF files, each with a single band representing the temperature. All GeoTIFF files will have the same geographic projection and resolution (up-sampled to 10m). Further information about MODIS LST can be accessed via here.

Fallow Weed Detection

Saving costs, preserving moisture and reducing carbon footprint

Weed control is an important part of farming. Fallow weeds can hinder crop development if left untreated, using up valuable moisture which is scarce in many agriculture regions of the world. Treatments such as weed killer are expensive, often less effective if not applied at the ideal growth stage of the plant, and tend to be extensive across whole paddocks to ensure that no weeds survive before sowing (precision spraying devices remain large investments for most farmers). Wide area application can be avoided using a new service from D-CAT that affordably highlight weed patches in fallow ground and provide locations / mapped areas detailing where treatment is required. A cost calculator is also supplied along with percentage of the paddock to assist with the spraying decision.

Trusted, accurate mapping of pasture biomass bring another level of decision making to anyone working with pastures, and offers the potential for more efficient practices, optimised feed management and the avoidance of over-grazing. Removing the need to estimate biomass by eye, plate-meter or drone/aircraft flights, satellite-derived biomass mapping saves time and money. Here we share our latest case study, where a best-practice test farm in Australia has finished trialling our pasture biomass service and is utilising it to develop optimal stock movements, improve sustainability and drive greater efficiencies.

Monitoring Land Surface Temperature

Smart processing for higher resolution images

The challenge to monitor changing temperatures in urban and rural areas has never been more real or important. Most commonly, temperature readings are taken by measuring the temperature of the air. However, this has a major drawback in that it cannot account for variation of temperature on different surfaces and materials. To do so, Land Surface Temperature (LST) is required. LST readings are generally obtained through remote sensing observations from satellites, which offer the benefit of monitoring cities, regions and nations at scale and at regular intervals. What differentiates D-CAT’s LST product is the unparalleled spatial resolution of 15m enabling more precise spatial insights.
