Australian Nine Crop Rotation

Determines the crop periods for a given Australian region of interest using the Australian Nine Crop Classifier.

This service determines the crop periods for the a given Australian region of interest using a time series (up to 1 year) of outputs generated by the Australian Nine Crop Classifier service. The outputs are an annotated region of interest GeoJSON and a summary CSV file both containing the determined crop periods periods of soil as well as a raw data CSV file which contains the data used to determine the rotation.

Satellite thermal imaging provides a cost-effective means of assessing the heat loss from building roofs and can inform owners of their relative energy efficiency, raising awareness and empowering decisions.

Predicting Crop Yield

Forecasting wheat production months before harvest

A strong and stable agriculture sector is important at a national level as a source of food, and beneficial as a source of economic gain through exports. Early prediction of harvest yields at national and regional scales is therefore important as an influencer of commodity trading pricies, a means of ensuring adequate food supplies, managing logistics, and as a component of balance of trade. At a smaller scale, accurate estimates of likely yields allow farmers to better manage budgets, plan seed retention versus sales, assist with insurance cover judgements, and crop management decisions through the latter part of the growing season. Crop yield prediction is possible using remote sensing from satellite imagery, and accurate predictions of wheat yield are shown below to be possible months before harvest.

Pollution Monitoring

Measuring Tropospheric Nitrogen Dioxide over Urban Areas

With the launch of ESA's Sentinel-5P satellite in 2017, it is now possible to monitor global atmospheric pollution on a daily basis, such as tropospheric concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, methane, sulphur dioxide, and formaldehyde. Taking advantage of this data, it is possible to produce temporal trends of pollution in cities and industrial areas, which can be used to understand movements of polluted air and possible risks for the population.
