CO2 Data from NASA's OCO-2 and OCO-3

This service provides the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) from NASA's OCO-2 and OCO-3 missions for your specified region of interest.

NASA's OCO-2 and OCO-3 provide global CO2 data at a resolution of from 2.25 km x 1.29 km. You must provide a region of interest and then a start date and optional end date. Note that data from both satellites is available from 2019-09-01 onwards. For each month from the start to the end (inclusive), the imagery is output as a GeoTIFF file the CO2 data. All GeoTIFF files will have the same geographic projection and resolution. Further information about NASA's OCO mission can be accessed via here.

Detecting and Monitoring Solar Farms

Large scale detection and monitoring of renewable energy sources

In order to mitigate the impacts of climate change and reduce the use of fossil fuels, the implementation and use of renewable energy sources is key. Remote sensing provides valuable monitoring of solar farms that enables their efficiency, and hence output, to be tracked over time at scale, efficiently from a distance. In this case study we demonstrate the automatic detection of some solar farms in the south of England and how regular monitoring using satellite thermal imaging reports on their efficiency.

Monitoring Deforestation

Tracking changes in forests with Sentinel-1

The Earth’s forests are some of our biggest tools in combatting the effects of climate change, with huge potential for carbon sequestration. However, forests are simultaneously being ravaged by the effects of extreme weather events, global temperature rise and deforestation. Remote sensing is an important tool that can be used to monitor deforestation, providing rapid insight into which areas are suffering the most and a timeline of changes to the forests.
